Shazi is a victim of the violence of Apartheid who was able to tell her story to the TRC. In the video clip below, she talks about the importance of theatre and support groups in her healing process. This clip is from Facing the Truth, with Bill Moyers.

Transcript:

MOYERS: It was a play that helped you find your voice again?

SHAZI: It was the play, and we’ve got this Khulumani survivor support group, where all the victims of apartheid came together and we sit around and we all talk about our past experiences, for we understand that talking is healing. The more you talk about your pain, the more you get relieved."
