This ABC News piece narrated by Peter Jennings originally aired in 1999, and gives a useful five-minute overview of the Armenian Genocide, complete with excellent visuals and maps. It is a great introductory piece that can be used in a workshop to give context, or by a classroom teacher to provide background.

The Armenians: A Story of Survival

This documentary explores the journey and struggle of the Armenian people&emdash;from their humble beginnings near the Middle East where they were identified only by their different language, through their Christian conversion in 301. It explores the countless wars waged to defend their faith and their domination by numerous empires. Finally, the video looks at the Armenians' near elimination during the first genocide of the 20th century and the birth of the Armenian nation.

The film opens with a brief overview of Armenian history, and can be used as part of a unit specifically on the Armenian Genocide or as part of the broader Facing History and Ourselves curriculum.

Raised by nationalistic Armenian parents, Araz Artinian has grown up with the Armenian Genocide as a backdrop to her identity and the identity of her family. Through conversations with her family, survivors of the Armenian Genocide, and citizens of modern-day Turkey, she discovers the importance of remembrance and her own personal connection to the cultural heritage passed down from her parents.
