T.J., a young man from contemporary Detroit, is knocked unconscious while fleeing the police after committing a crime. He wakes up in Charleston, South Carolina in 1822 and is taken captive as a slave. Before he can get home, T.J. must learn some hard lessons about the history of his fellow African Americans, the value of education, and what it takes to keep the dream of freedom alive.
