Margot Stern Strom Speaks to WREG-CBS in Memphis about Choosing to Participate
Margot Stern Strom, executive director and co-founder of Facing History and Ourselves, recently sat down with local TV station WREG-CBS in her hometown of Memphis, Tennessee. The subject was "Choosing to Participate," the organization's traveling multimedia exhibit which is on display at the city's Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library through November 30.
“We’re talking about human behavior writ-large, but with a concentration on upstanders,” Margot said of the exhibit. “Often when people study history you can look at perpetrator, the victim, the opportunist, the bystander, and you certainly need those tools to be able to deconstruct an incident in history and recognize something like it happening today. But the word 'upstander' we’ve been coining [all] these years [it's] because there are so many people who are bold, quiet, unsung who do the right thing at the right time.”
