Sitar Arts Center Volunteers

Washington, District Of Columbia
United States

Sitar Arts Center VolunteersSitar Arts Center Volunteers, Washington, D.C. Sitar Arts Center provides a safe haven afterschool, on Saturdays and during the summer where children and youth can explore the arts. Sitar fosters personal and artistic growth through the visual arts, music, drama, dance, digital arts and creative writing. Located in Adams Morgan, the Center offers classes to more than 700 students a year, 80 percent of whom come from low-income households.

The faculty is made up of over 100 volunteers each semester who teach more than 65 classes a week and giving approximately 80 private music lessons. Teachers also come from our partner organizations, including the Corcoran Gallery of Art, The Washington Ballet, DC Jazz Festival and Shakespeare Theatre Company. All of these local artists enable Sitar to fulfill its mission of providing affordable arts education and ensure that no family is ever turned away due to an inability to pay.
