Peter Freimark

Social Change Activist
Peter Freimark finds ways to connect those who have a need and those who want to give. In September, 2005, recognizing the lack of government response to Hurricane Katrina, Peter brought in a 53-foot trailer and parked it next to a chalk board that read “Katrina Relief.” Within 10 days, volunteers filled 5 semi trailers with donations.
After the largest immigration raid in U.S. history, that left many families in Iowa without an income, Peter arranged for relief supplies to be shipped to them for free. When 44,000 pounds of chicken became available with no place to donate them, he found a way to get them to those who needed them. He started a peanut butter and jelly sandwich making table after religious services at Temple Israel Ner Tamid; congregants make about 150 sandwiches to distribute to the homeless.
These are only a few examples of how Peter takes action and inspires others to do the same. He makes you think, “If he can do it, maybe I can too!”
