Mika Major

Inclusion Advocate, Business Consultant
Mika Major is one of Cleveland’s most tireless advocates for the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) population. Mika, along with Dr. Henry Ng, created the Metro Youth Outreach Program so that when a child is kicked out of their home because their family learns they are gay, help is there to reach them and find transportation and emergency housing or foster care for them. She speaks to students and faculty, and businesses throughout the year, letting them know there is no protection for gay employees in Ohio, that there is a high rate of homelessness among gay youth, and that “gay bashing” is one of the most frequent forms of school harassment.
Mika tries to reach everyone willing to listen and is never afraid to speak up and explain the conditions and experiences of the LGBT student. She frequently disarms people with her wonderful sense of humor, while making certain people understand nothing she has said is a laughing matter.
