Joe Marshall

United States

Joe Marshall

Dr. Joseph E. Marshall, Jr., is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Omega Boys Club, a grassroots youth development and violence prevention organization that emphasizes academic achievement and non-involvement with drugs. As an algebra teacher at Potrero Hill Middle School, he started Omega Boys Club in 1987 as an after-school program with fellow teacher Jack Jacqua. Every Tuesday, he and Jack would hold discussions with kids to teach them how to value themselves and others through hard work, discipline, setting goals and love. Over 235 young men and women have gone to college supported by the Omega Boys Club Scholarship Fund. Joe also produces a weekly call-in radio show called “Street Soldiers,” addressing issues like violence, gangs, drugs and teen pregnancy. Dr. Marshall’s courage and continued personal devotion to Omega Boys Club/Street Soldiers sets an incredibly powerful example for hundreds of young men and women in San Francisco Bay Area communities. He’s turned around hundreds of lives for the better and continues to fight for them today.
