Aimee Thompson

Watertown, Massachusetts
United States

Aimee Thompson

Aimee is the founder and executive director of Close to Home, an organization that fosters an alternative response to domestic violence. Aimee recognized that people are most connected in their neighborhoods and families, but when there was a domestic problem, the “helpers” tended to be police and government workers. Aimee designed Close to Home to look at long-term prevention and to build relationships in communities. She helps regular citizens see the need to support those around them. She also developed a teen component that brings teenagers together to talk about the issue and address solutions. Aimee has a tremendous personal commitment to this work and goes against the grain of the traditional system.
