Boston 2008
While the exhibition was in Boston in spring 2008, Choosing to Participate drew more than 100,000 people, including students from 130 schools and members of 70 community groups to tour the exhibit. Community groups from across the city came together to discuss issues of leadership, belonging, and social justice as they deepened their understanding of one another. These connections have ignited partnerships that will continue in years to come and have inspired communities to create projects based on the themes of Choosing to Participate and engage young people throughout the area.
New England Upstanders
Facing History and Ourselves sent out a call to residents of New England to share stories of friends and neighbors, co-workers and family members who take up the challenge to speak out, do the right thing, and make decisions that help create positive change in our world. These people make a conscious choice to step in instead of stand by. We call them "Upstanders." Some acts were big and some were little, but none were too small to notice.
